Ganglion Cyst Excision
Removal of a ganglion of the hand or wrist is usually performed as an outpatient at Randolph Hospital. You will arrive at the hospital 1-1/2 hours prior to surgery and return home about 1-1/2 hours after surgery. A dressing is applied at surgery. This may be removed 2 days after surgery and band aids put over the wound. Do not soak the wound but you may clean the area with a damp cloth. Elevation is helpful to control swelling and pain. Also motion of the fingers is beneficial to control swelling. A pain medication will be prescribed. Frequently nausea occurs with any narcotic and avoiding excessive activities while using the drug may help control this. Also Ibuprofen, Naprosyn or Tylenol may be adequate and the narcotic can be avoided. |
