Dr. Osteen has practiced in Asheboro since 1987. Originally from the mid west he did his undergraduate education at the University of Kansas. After graduating with a degree in Chemistry he attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri receiving an M.D. Degree in 1974. After this he did a residency in Family Practice at the University of Utah and practiced family medicine for 7 years in Vail, Colorado. In 1983 the Osteen family returned to the academic world at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine where Dr. Osteen studied Orthopaedic Surgery and finished an orthopedic residency in 1987. He is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Osteen is married and has three children, two of which are in college and graduate school. The youngest is at Asheboro High School. He is active in running, cycling, and occasional tennis and golf. Other interests include travel, flying airplanes and scuba diving. He follows team sports in the area and works with the athletic programs at Asheboro High. Dr. Osteen practices general orthopedics which includes the treatment of problems involving bones, joints, and soft tissues (tendons, ligaments, and nerves) in the arms, legs, neck, and back. He has always felt that both surgical and non-surgical treatment protocols are very dependent upon reestablishing function through muscle and joint rehabilitation. Therefore the Sports & Rehabilitation Center is a key element in his practice. The Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports and Rehabilitation Center function as an inseparable unit caring for bone and joint diseases. |
