Same-Day Relief for Your Pain
Pain waits for no one. If you’re in pain, we understand that sometimes you just can’t hold out until your regular doctor’s appointment for the relief you need from a pain management injection.
At Orthopaedic Surgical Consultants, our injection clinic is open during regular OSC office hours, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, and offers same-day appointments when needed.
We’re proud to offer our patients the convenience of a dedicated and fully equipped suite where they can comfortably receive the injection therapy their OSC doctor has ordered, including regenerative medicine like PRP and stem cell therapy.
In many cases, whatever the type of injection you are receiving, it will work best if it’s delivered to a precise spot inside your body. Guided injections allow your OSC provider to see exactly where the needle inside you needs to be before releasing the medication.
We use one of two methods to guide injections:
- Fluoroscopy – Use of an X-ray imaging device that produces a real-time video of structures and soft tissue inside your body.
- Ultrasound – This imaging device uses sound waves instead of X-ray radiation to create a real-time video image of internal tissue and organs.
The use of cell-based materials to boost the body’s natural healing response has revolutionized the world of medicine. It is used in many medical fields, including orthopedics. When used to repair and replace damaged bones, cartilage, muscles, tendons, and more – it is called regenerative orthobiologics.
The most popular types of regenerative orthobiologics in use today are PRP and stem cell therapies. In either case, your doctor will use substances found in the human body as a medicine, of sorts – by injecting the biomaterial at a site of injury to stimulate the growth of healthy new tissue in the area.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses platelets, the components of your blood containing proteins called growth factors, which are used to help the body heal.
The process of PRP therapy involves drawing blood from you, which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets. The concentrated level of platelets is then re-injected to an injured area of the body. The idea is that, once in place, PRP will stimulate the growth of healthy new cells for the muscle, tendon, or other damaged tissue that needs it. PRP therapy is a natural method of targeting a specific location for extra healing.
PRP therapy has been used by athletes to speed recovery from orthopedic injuries, like sprains and strains. It has also been used after surgery to help repair torn tendons or ligaments and stimulate wound healing. Some research has even found that PRP therapy has been more beneficial than hyaluronic acid injections (viscosupplementation) in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
Stem Cell Therapy
Like PRP therapy, stem cell therapy uses biomaterials from the body, which are then reinjected to a site of injury to promote tissue regeneration and healing. The two procedures differ in the mechanism used to promote healing and the extent of potential healing.
The stem cell therapy we utilize at OSC involves the use of what are called adult mesenchymal stem cells found in a patient’s own fat tissue and bone marrow. The cells are extracted with the use of a special needle, processed, then reinjected at a targeted site in the patient’s body.
Effects of stem cell therapy can be particularly profound. That’s because stem cells have the unique ability to transform into many different types of cells. For example, stem cells injected at the site of a muscle tear can turn into new, healthy muscle cells that can reproduce and eventually replace the damaged muscle tissue.
Stem cell therapy has been used for all manner orthopedic injuries, including to help heal fractures, slow down cartilage loss due to arthritis, repair soft tissue damage, and relieve pain.
